Active and Outdoors

The City of Rochester Society was founded in 1967 to help conserve the historic City as a pleasant place to visit. Today the Society is as active as ever, helping to improve the environment and quality of life in Rochester for residents and visitors alike. Since its formation, the Society has been active in many ways to the benefit of Rochester and its people.
See Rochester's wealth of historic buildings and hear about the city's long and fascinating history from an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide.
The Society conducts open tours on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from the first Saturday in April until the end of October, plus all bank holidays, the Christmas Market weekends, and during the Dickensian Christmas and summer festivals. The tours are approximately 90 minutes in duration and commence at 2.15 pm. During festivals we conduct 45 minute open tours at 10:45 am. Donations to society funds are welcome for open tours.
The Society also offers booked tours for groups, and charges can be viewed on our website. All tours start from the Visitor Information Centre on the High Street.

With the upcoming Sweeps festival (30th April - 2nd May) we will again conduct a 45-minute walk at 10.45 am & a 90-minute tour at 2.15 pm on each of the festival days. These tours will still begin from the Visitor Information Centre on Rochester High Street.
