Fort Amherst is Britain's biggest Napoleonic Fortress built during Napoleonic times to defend Medway from a land-based attack.
Fort Amherst has been restored to reflect its local and national importance and has brand new areas to explore! We are a free-to-visit historical site the whole family can enjoy, with 20 acres of green space all linked to the Great Lines Heritage Park. The only charges are for parking, tunnel tours and additional events (free parking for visitors).
Fort Amherst also offers a truly unique and atmospheric venue for your wedding or other event and few locations can offer the perfect back-drop for a variety of film or television productions - Contact us to find out more.
Take pride in local history; explore a maze of underground defensive tunnels; enjoy spectacular views; step back in time to imagine the life of a Napoleonic soldier; and discover Fort Amherst’s strategic role in defending Medway in both World War I and World War II.
There's always something happening at Fort Amherst. Check out our regular and special events on the website or see our Facebook page. Come and visit us soon!
