Curtis Way Coach Park

New Medway Coach Park at Curtis Way, Rochester.

Medway Council offers FREE 15 coach parking spaces, within restricted hours at Curtis Way, Rochester, ME1 2XQ.  The coach park is situated just off the A229 between historic Rochester and the M2 motorway.

When can I park at the coach park?
You can gain access to the coach park between 7am to 8pm (07:00-20:00 hours), 7 days a week.

How far is the coach park from the Visitor Information Centre?
The distance between Curtis Way and the Visitor Information Centre is 2.9 miles (approx. 10 minutes drive). For a map click here.

What facilities are available for my passengers?
Passengers cannot be dropped off and/or collected from Curtis Way Coach Park.

Facilities are available for passengers in Rochester at the Visitor Information Centre and drivers’ are strongly advised to use the four dedicated coach setting down/pick-up bays behind Medway Visitor Information Centre located on A2 Corporation Street. For a map click here.

These bays can be used between 7am to 9pm (07:00-21:00 hours), 7 days a week. Satnav postcode Corporation Street, Rochester ME1 1NH.  Waiting time in this location is restricted to 1 hour maximum stay with no return within 2 hours (except during festivals and special events when the waiting time is limited to 15 minutes maximum stay for setting down and pick-ups only).

How do I get to Curtis Way coach park from the Visitor Information Centre coach bays on Corporation Street?
Suggested route is through Strood High Street to turn around, and then follow the directional signage crossing the bridge, along the A2 Corporation Street, up City Way, and follow the gyratory roundabout to turn left into Marconi Way and then right onto Curtis Way.

Alternative route is via the M2 motorway, taking the A228 in Strood, exiting at M2 Junction 4, A229 Chatham/Rochester. This route is not signposted due to parts of the network falling under Highways England.

Is the coach parking protected by CCTV? 
The coach park has two infrared cameras located at the entrance of the parking area. The cameras are operated by Medway Commercial Group (MCG) 24/7.

How do I get in/out of the coach park?
The coach park is protected by remote controlled rising bollard system. 

Entrance
- Ensure you vehicle is positioned on the white diagonal lines at the coach park's entrance. Press the Intercom button located on the Traffic Light to speak to the attendant to gain access.  Once the operator has authorised your admittance to the parking area they will lower the bollards so the coach can enter on a 'GREEN' light.  PLEASE DO NOT TAILGATE as the bollards will rise automatically once the vehicle has passed the safety detection loops!

Exit is automatic once a vehicle has reached the exit white diagonal lines the bollards will lower. Only proceed to exit on a 'GREEN' light and PLEASE DO NOT TAILGATE.

Please note the coach parks operation times of 7am to 8pm (07:00-20:00 hrs). There is strictly no access or egress outside of these times.

What facilities are available at the Coach Park?
There is no on-site facilities at Curtis Way.

The site is a FREE coach parking facility with 15 lined parking spaces for coaches only (this excludes other vehicle types such as PLGs, Campervans, Caravans and HGVs). Coaches must park in the lined bays, switch off engines and lights when stationary.

  • There will not be facilities to empty chemical waste – although this can be undertaken at Kings Ferry Coach depot in Gillingham; fees apply. Please call 01634 377577 for details.
  • There is no tap to obtain fresh drinking water for tanks and/ or washing vehicles on-site.
  • There are no public toilets and/or rest area available at Curtis Way.
  • There is no refuse bin available at Curtis Way and drivers are asked NOT to leave black bags on site. Please take your litter with you.

Passengers are not permitted to disembark at the coach park. Please use the dedicated coach setting down bays available at the Visitor Information Centre, Corporation Street. The four dedicated bays can be used between the hours of 7am to 9pm seven days a week. Coaches waiting restriction at this location has been extended to 60 minutes (with no return in two hours), so as to cover any legal taco breaks or for coaches stopping in Rochester as part of their tight tour itineraries for a short duration.

What facilities are nearby for drivers?
If you fancy a short walk, the Tiger Moth pub is not too far away, where you can get tea/coffee.  Less than 15-minutes walk is Papas Fish & Chip shop located on the A229 City Way and a KFC is located at Horsted Retail Park.

Asda supermarket is a short drive and has ample on-site parking for cars and coaches and a petrol filling station.

What if I want to go into town?
We recommend getting a taxi as the quickest and most direct way into Rochester.

Alternatively, you can get the Arriva 101 Bus from the main road into Chatham Waterfront bus station, and then take one of several bus services available to Rochester.

Can I park overnight at Curtis Way?
Yes, but your coach must be parked by 8pm (20:00 hours) and cannot leave the coach parking before 7am (07:00 hours) in the morning.

These are movement restrictions that were necessary to secure the quiet enjoyment of the area for local residents. You may park at the coach park for several consecutive days should you be staying in area with your group.

Curtis Way coach park cannot be used by local operators as a depot or overflow storage facility. For further information on operating a coach and bus business, visit the Vehicle and Operating Services Agency (VOSA) – www.gov.uk.
